The first graders have been studying Japan and thinking about how we can help our friends on the other side of the world to recover from the tragic earthquake and tsunami. Below are letters that they have written to President Obama and to the children of Japan to extend their wishes, hopes, and desires to help.

It's been too long since we've posted some inspiring first grade writing. Well, good things come to those who wait!

If I could be president for one day, I would give shelter to people who have no shelter. Then I would help some more people. I can help people in Africa. That would be good.

If I could be president for one day, I would stop the war. I would give health insurance. Health insurance is important because it pays for doctors appointments. I would go to a Red Sox game. I would sit in the front row. I would give food and water to homeless people because they usually don’t have shelter. I would pick up trash. It is good for the environment. It’s good for the earth. I would make laws about speeding, because it’s wrong. I would go to China for adventures.

It was great meeting with all the first grade families this past week for parent teacher conferences. Here is the latest batch of first grade writing.

If I could go on an adventure, I would go camping. I will go with Lindsay and my dog. It will be exciting. We will go when I am ten. I will go camping in the snowy mountains. Camping on the mountain will be a risk. We will go when it is winter.

If I could go on an adventure, I would go deep sea diving in Vermont with my dad and my dog. I am going when I am nine. I would feel very good. I would like it very much. Yay! It's up and running. It's already been a wonderful year in first grade. Thanks for visiting our blog. I hope it serves as a place to enjoy some of the wonderful ideas these incredible children come up with.

I will go to the North Pole with my dad and brother Kyle. I picked that place so I can see Santa! I am going to see his reindeer with him. It is going to be really snowy there.

I would go to Iraq. I would bring my grandma and my friend Cheyenne. I would e-mail my mom and my sister. We can play some games like tic- tac- toe and checkers. I like to play checkers. I chose Iraq so I could see my dad.

We will feed the penguins.

They yelled, “Yay!” “I will bring you home.” After that they went to a the water park. The dog fell out. They lived happily ever after.

In winter, I was baking a gingerbread lizard and he came to life. We went outside. We went inside to get a drink. The drink was hot cocoa! I dipped him in the hot cocoa and ate him.

After that she said, “That was fun!” She wanted to go to sleep in her bed, so she went to sleep. I went to sleep too. The next day we made another gingerbread girl. I am thankful for a loving hamster and a great dog. I love them. I am thankful for my pets. They love me. I wonder if pets have dreams. Yes, pets have dreams. I wonder what kind of dreams pets have. They probably dream all about other pets. Maybe dogs dream about all other dogs in the world. Faith and I will be finding more out about this mystery.

I am thankful for having my own room. I have my own TV. I like to be by myself. I watch Sponge Bob Square Pants. Sometimes I jump on my bed.
