There's so much to catch up on!

...So here goes!

We finished writing about our wishes for this amazing year.  Each student wrapped up their piece with a detailed watercolor painting.  They're on display in the classroom, so be sure to stop by on either end of the day to take a peek.  Here are two shots from painting day!

We've been tenaciously studying the "properties of air."  Kids have designed their own experiments, formulated questions, had discussions, and their interest level had been through the roof!  What more do  six year olds really need than to be given time to articulate profound thoughts about bubbles, balloons, tubes, fans, and anything else they might fathom to have a connection with air.

Have you heard we're raising monarch butterflies?  Mrs. Barry's insect unit has been contagious!  We'll be looking more in depth at insects in coming weeks, but watching this life cycle unfold before our very eyes has been incredible.  The first graders are excited and united by this, to say the least.

First graders were so happy when we brought both classes together yesterday.  They partnered up and played the role of teacher for a few minutes.  Each student eloquently shared concepts they've learned in their respective science classes, and then we took a quick hike on our beautiful nature trial.  Kids rejoiced after helping each other up the steep hill, and it was a moment to remember.

Thanks so much for reading, and have fun catching up with your kids! Remember that if your child draws a picture, creates an experiment, or even writes a few sentences at home, we'd love them to share it with their peers in class.  Enjoy the rest of the week.
