Bubbles and Parachutes

We had so much fun making bubbles last week!  Kids mixed a basic solution and used it to test their theories about air currents. Their bubbles foated across the playground. Most of them bring chased down for popping!

Here's the recipe for your use at home. Let us know how they come out.

- 1 part light corn syrup
- 2 parts dish soap (most sources think Dawn is the best brand, but any should work!)
- 6 parts water

Mix gently.
Have tons of fun.

Today we made parachutes. I challenged students to explore ideas around the concept of if air resistance. We talked about aerodynamics, the impact of air on moving things, and the science of skydiving. Don't worry, none of us seemed all that interested in jumping out of a moving airplane. That said, studying air is so much fun. Its impact has applications on our daily lives that we rarely think about.  How incredible! We can experiment with something we are always in contact with, carries the key to all life on our planet, and is completely invisible.  Its been tons of fun. Here are some classic shots from the building and testing of our parachutes.
